How to prepare for the Wilson’s School 11+

Wilson's School in Wallington (London Borough of Sutton) is one of the most selective boys' grammar schools in the country. It has 186 Year 7 places for September 2027.

Key dates for September 2027 entry

• Registration: 1 May to 31 July 2026 (midnight). No late entries.
• Access arrangements deadline: 12 June 2026
• Stage 1 (Sutton SET): Tuesday 15 September 2026. Results the following week.
• Stage 2: Saturday 3 October 2026
• Sport and music aptitude tests: Saturday 10 October 2026
• Final results: before October half term

What are the tests?

There is no verbal or non-verbal reasoning at Wilson's. It is all Maths and English.

• Stage 1, the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test (SET): multiple-choice Maths and English.
• Stage 2: written Maths and English papers, not multiple choice. Children must show working and write full answers.

How are places given?

There is no catchment area. After looked-after children, the school keeps 14 places for boys on free school meals and 9 each for sport and music aptitude. All other places go in order of score. Living in Sutton only helps if two boys have exactly the same score.

There is no fixed pass mark. The schools decide it after the tests are marked.

How to prepare

• Because there is no reasoning, put the time into strong Maths (including multi-step problems) and English comprehension and writing.
• Practise written answers with full working for Stage 2, not just multiple choice.
• Build speed and accuracy for the SET with timed multiple-choice practice in the summer of Year 5.
