The Sutton 11+ (SET): a guide for parents

Six Sutton schools share one first-stage test, the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test (SET). One registration covers them all.

Which schools use the SET?

• Wallington County Grammar School (boys)
• Wallington High School for Girls
• Nonsuch High School for Girls
• Greenshaw High School (mixed, for its "ability places")

Key dates for September 2027 entry

• Registration: 1 May to 31 July 2026
• SET: Tuesday 15 September 2026 (multiple-choice Maths and English)
• Stage 2 for girls (Nonsuch and Wallington Girls): 26 September 2026
• Stage 2 for boys (Wilson's, Sutton Grammar, Wallington County): 3 October 2026
• Results: before the 31 October application deadline

Passing the SET is only step one

A good SET score makes your child eligible for each school's Stage 2: written Maths and English papers. Places are then offered using each school's own rules.

Priority areas differ by school

• Sutton Grammar: most places go to boys in priority postcodes (SM1 to SM7, KT4, KT17, CR0 4, CR4).
• Wallington County: up to 110 places by score from anywhere, plus Pupil Premium and a small number of local places.
• Wallington High School for Girls: 100 places by score from anywhere, and up to 110 places for girls living within 6.7 km.
• Nonsuch: places by score, Pupil Premium places, and places for girls living close to the school (check the 2027 policy).
• Wilson's: no catchment; places by score.

How to prepare

There is no verbal or non-verbal reasoning in the Sutton tests. Focus on Maths and English, and practise both multiple-choice (for the SET) and written answers (for Stage 2).
