Westminster Under School 11+ Entry Guide
Westminster Under School is an independent school with entry at 11+ into Year 7. This guide explains who can apply, the assessments, how offers are made and how to prepare. We update it whenever the school changes its admissions.
About the school
- The prep school of Westminster School, in central London. Co-educational from September 2026: girls and boys can apply at 11+.
- About 40 Year 7 places. An 11+ place leads to Westminster School in Year 9 with no further test.
Who can apply
- Children in Year 6 (for September 2027 entry, born 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016), registered by the school's deadline.
- Independent schools have no catchment area. You apply to the school directly, not through your council.
- A registration fee is usually payable (often waived for families on low incomes).
Key dates for September 2027 entry
- Registration deadline: Wednesday 30 September 2026
- ISEB pre-test: 23 November 2026 at the school, or by 7 December at the child's own school
- Written papers (about 100 children): Saturday 9 January 2027
- Interviews (about 60 children): late January 2027 (the school's pages give January and February; check)
- Offers: by Monday 1 February 2027

The assessments
Stage 1
The ISEB Common Pre-Test: Maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, online.
Stage 2
The school's own Maths and English papers (about 40 minutes each).
Interview
Classroom activities and an interview with two senior staff.
How offers are made
Offers are made by early February.
Scholarships and bursaries
- No academic scholarships at the Under School; music scholarships only.
- Means-tested bursaries up to 100%.
How to help your child prepare
- ISEB pre-test. It is online, multiple choice and adaptive (questions get harder or easier). Practise short, timed questions on screen in English, Maths and both kinds of reasoning.
- Written English and Maths. The school sets its own papers. Cover all of Key Stage 2 by the end of Year 5, go further on problem solving, and practise showing maths working clearly.
- Interview. Help your child talk about their interests, the books they read and how they solved a problem. There is no need to learn answers by heart.
- Read every day. Wide reading builds the vocabulary and comprehension every entrance test needs.
- Practice material: The school provides no practice papers.

Does an 11+ place mean a place at Westminster School?
Yes. The school says the place runs through to Year 9 at Westminster with no further testing.
Is there an 8+ entry?
No. Entry points are 4+, 7+ and 11+.
Can we apply to several schools?
