Wimbledon High School 11+ Entry Guide
Wimbledon High School GDST is an independent school with entry at 11+ into Year 7. This guide explains who can apply, the assessments, how offers are made and how to prepare. We update it whenever the school changes its admissions.
About the school
- An independent girls' day school in Wimbledon, part of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST).
- About 60 external Year 7 places.
Who can apply
- Children in Year 6 (for September 2027 entry, born 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016), registered by the school's deadline.
- Independent schools have no catchment area. You apply to the school directly, not through your council.
- A registration fee is usually payable (often waived for families on low incomes).
Key dates for September 2027 entry
- Registration deadline: Tuesday 3 November 2026
- Stage 1: 17 or 18 November 2026
- Stage 2 (by invitation): Friday 8 January 2027
- Offers: February 2027

The assessments
Stage 1
Verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests at the school.
Stage 2
A creative group assessment. There is no formal interview at 11+. A report from the current school is needed.
How offers are made
The school makes its own offers in February.
Scholarships and bursaries
- Academic scholarships from the test results.
- Music, Drama and Sport scholarships (apply by the registration deadline).
- GDST means-tested bursaries up to 100%.
How to help your child prepare
- Verbal reasoning. Build vocabulary through daily reading, and practise word and code questions.
- Non-verbal reasoning. Practise shapes, patterns and sequences little and often.
- Group tasks. Schools look for children who listen, share ideas and work well with others.
- Read every day. Wide reading builds the vocabulary and comprehension every entrance test needs.
- Practice material: The school does not publish its own practice papers.
Common questions from parents
Is there an English or Maths paper?
Stage 1 is verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Strong reading and number skills still help.
Can we apply to several schools?
Yes. Many families apply to a few independent schools and grammar schools. Watch the different registration deadlines.
