The assessments
Reasoning tests
The school's own tests. They are not based on school subjects and check verbal, non-verbal, spatial and quantitative reasoning.
Creative writing and maths
Girls also write a short creative writing piece and do a brief maths extension exercise.
Interview
Girls who pass the exam are invited to a selection interview in January.
How offers are made
Bromley High makes its own offers, sent by Friday 5 February 2027.
Scholarships and bursaries
- Scholarships at Year 7: Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Sport, and a Young Leaders programme.
- Means-tested bursaries up to 100% of fees, for the highest-performing girls academically. Tick the bursary box when you apply.
How to help your child prepare
- Reasoning. The tests are all reasoning. Practise verbal, non-verbal and spatial questions little and often, and build speed.
- Maths. Cover all of Key Stage 2 by the end of Year 5, then try harder problem-solving questions.
- Creative writing. Practise planning and writing a short story or description to a time limit.
- Practice material: the school does not publish past or sample papers.
- Read every day. Wide reading builds the vocabulary and comprehension every entrance test needs.
- Interview. Help your child talk about their interests, the books they read and how they solved a problem. There is no need to learn answers by heart.
Common questions from parents
Does Bromley High use the ISEB pre-test?
No. It sets its own reasoning tests.
Are there practice papers?
No. The school says it does not provide past or sample papers.
Can we apply to several schools?
Yes. Many families apply to a few independent schools and grammar schools. Watch the different registration deadlines.
